A new report published by the Scottish Ambulance Service on behalf of the Delivery Group for Scotland’s Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Strategy provides an overview of activity and outcomes following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) across Scotland between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025.

The report builds on the baseline data published in Scotland’s Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Report 2019–22 and should be read alongside the Scotland’s Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Strategy 2021–2026, which sets out the national approach to improving survival and strengthening every link in the Chain of Survival.

Publishing annual reports on OHCA outcomes is an important recommendation of the Global Resuscitation Alliance. By sharing this information openly, the report helps improve transparency and accountability while supporting ongoing efforts to save more lives.

The report is intended for a wide audience, including members of the public, healthcare professionals, community organisations, policy makers, and the wider resuscitation community. By presenting national data and highlighting variations across communities, it aims to encourage discussion, support evidence-based decision making, and help identify where further improvements can be made.

Most importantly, the report provides an opportunity to reflect on both the progress made and the challenges that remain in improving survival from cardiac arrest in Scotland.

Through continued collaboration between emergency services, healthcare partners, communities and organisations across the country, Scotland is working to build a system of care where more people receive early help and more lives are saved.
