CPR Superheroes!

CPR Superheroes!

For Restart a Heart Day this year the CPR superheroes were out in force!

Volunteers from GCU, the Scottish Ambulance Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service took on the task of equipping pupils across 4 Glasgow primary schools. Pupils and volunteers alike donned their superhero costumes for the event.

“As restart a heart day falls in the Scottish school’s midterm break, I was looking for an idea to still include our schools in the programme in some way”, says Liz Simpson of GCU. “Inspired by the SALFS YouTube film about not needing to be a superhero to save a life – and Sandpiper Wildcat’s use of the Pink Dong song ‘Baby Shark’ I came up with the idea of CPR superhero day”.

There was no better way to do this than in collaboration with the multi-award winning Caledonian Club at Glasgow Caledonian University. This widening participation and community engagement initiative raises aspirations in young people and families, building key life skills and enhancing the school curriculum by providing unique learning opportunities.

“Nurse lecturers, nursing and paramedic students, along with SFRS and SAS staff (not to mention our very own superhero – Caledonian’s Captain Compressions) went along to the 4 schools to teach CPR to the pupils. Children aged from 4-11 came to school dressed as superheroes with their favourite soft toy to learn lifesaving skills”.

A super job by all involved!
